I’m studying for my English class and need an explanation.

1. A topic sentence that indicates the topic and establishes the controlling idea for the paragraph.
   • Example: The worst job that I ever had was working for a cleaning company.
2. Three or four supporting sentences that each present an example that supports the statement made in the opening topic sentence.
   • Example: First of all, I had to work with caustic chemicals that would burn my skin if they splattered on me.
3. For each supporting sentence (examples), further details that provide your reader with additional information for fully understanding/seeing each example.
4. Connecting words and/or phrases (transitions) used when introducing each supporting sentence so your reader can see that you have finished with the previous example and are now moving to the next example, words and phrases like the following: first of all, for example, next, second, in addition, another example, finally, etc.
5. A concluding sentence that quickly wraps up your main point(s) and ends with an expanded thought.
