Description: This assignment requires you to (1) select and research an intervention therapy utilized in social work practice (It can NOT be one of the interventions featured in class, e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Case Management, or Solution-Focused Therapy) and (2) write a 4-6 page* paper (*not including cover page/references) that presents information in the following five content areas:

• Intervention Overview.
  • When was the intervention developed? By whom?
  • Describe any contextual factors that preempted it’s development
  • Describe the theory(ies) on which your intervention is based (how does it relate to understanding and treating an underlying problem?). Cite from course content on theory.
• Intervention Strategies.
  • Identify and define important concepts, principles, and/or value tenants
  • What are the steps and/or specific strategies associated with the intervention?
  • Is this intervention considered “evidence based”? Explain
• Client Fit.
  • What specific type (s) of problems is the intervention useful for addressing?
  • What client groups does it work well with?
  • What client groups does it NOT work well with? Explain.
• Cultural Competence.
  • Is this intervention applicable to diverse groups such as LGBTQ persons, First Nations peoples and/or Hispanics? Explain
  • Identify specific ways to tailor the intervention to make it more culturally sensitive. Cite from NASW Standards and Indicators of Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice.
• Summary.
  • Discuss the overall strengths and limitations of the intervention
  • Summarize professional gains in researching this particular intervention.

• Cite at least 10 references from professional literature THROUGHOUT the paper (NOT INCLUDING course textbooks!)
• Writing skills
  • Is the writing clear and easy to understand?
  • Does the paper include an introduction purpose and conclusion statement?
  • Is the paper in APA 6^th format: cover page, 1” margins, 12pt font, etc.
  • Does the assignment have grammatical errors (e.g., misspellings, run-on sentences, excessive use of contractions)?
