Organizations recognize that many of the critical elements of talent (human capital) management are implemented by their managers. This is true in virtually any industry. Managers must recognize the differences between feedback and coaching, and be able to deliver both effectively to enable individual and organizational development and growth.
Instructions:
- Conduct outside research on coaching and different techniques for providing employee feedback.
- Develop a response to each of the following:
- Compare and contrast the differences between coaching an employee and providing an employee with feedback.
- Describe how the combination of providing feedback and coaching is important to organizational growth and development.
- Identify the differences between formal and informal feedback, and explain the ways in which each can be used to enable employees to be more effective in their jobs.
- Describe at least two important principles or elements that managers should incorporate in their coaching and feedback discussions with employees.
- Define the differences, if any, between providing positive feedback and providing constructive feedback.
- Select one practice you can incorporate into your daily work that will help you improve your ability to provide effective feedback and coaching. Explain how this practice will lead to improvement.
- Compose your answers with a minimum of one paragraph per question (minimum of 6 paragraphs total). Use at least one outside source of research to support your work. Cite your source(s) according to APA guidelines.
