?Hello Everyone-
I hope by now you’ve read “Schoolgirl.” It was a fast read, don’t you think, especially on the heels of “The Inheritance of Loss.” I’m generally a rather slow reader and Dazai’s novella was more like a short story. I have a little task for you about it, which I’d like you to bring in next week when we are in class together again.
Do a Google search for “Osamu Dazai’s ‘Schoolgirl’ Words Without Borders.” It’s something of a recent review of the story. It’s not very long. Please read it. I think you’ll find it interesting,.
What I’d like you to do for class next week is to choose from the following options:
1. In imitation, if you like, of Dazai’s stream-of-consciousness style write a Response to the book. A couple of typed, double-spaced pages is fine.
2. A straight-forward Response.
3. A Response that ties in the Words Without Borders article and the book…and you can write it up as either “1” or “2” .
Having finished Schoolgirl, please start reading A Long Way Gone. You have two weeks to read it, so please try to get through more than half of it by the beginning of next week. Some of you may find it so compelling you just might finish it entirely. Also for next week, please bring in one discussion question on A Long Way Gone.
Thanks.
Be well all.
