Evidence Based Practice

Evidence based practice are the proven methods of carrying out policy and nursing care. The evidence is a compilation of research that under went experimentation, peer-review, and evaluation yielding consistent and significant results (Huber, 2018). Evidence based practice is the standard of international and national nursing care. For example, globally, handwashing is required to be performed in all hospital or patient care settings. Many studies show the reduction of disease and infections by washing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Moreover, evidence-based practice influence nursing practice by acting as the driving force of quality assurance and improvement. Evidence based practice ask a question or present a problem related to an adverse event then tests different solutions to prevent it from occurring or to modify the actions to solve. Evidence based practice causes nursing practice to evolve and change all the time (Chien, 2019).

Economics

           Nursing is an altruistic profession where the person relation is important and influence the health and wellness of others. However, nursing is also a science. Nursing requires the combination of education, science, medicine, and technology which are not free to utilize or gain. Healthcare is a business and therefore economics will influence practice and policy. Budgets are necessary in order to finance and manage payroll, staffing, maintenance, supply, resources, aesthetics and much more (Huber, 2018). Budgeting and resource allocation determine the demographics and services offered at each facility. More services offered mean more money. Unfortunately, economics also play a role in quality (Brownie, 2017). For instance, a CT scan in a rural neighborhood malfunctions due to maintenance and need for upgrade as a result a patients’ stroke or cancer was missed. Another hospital CT scan is the newest version recently purchased immediately showed that stroke or cancer and the patient was able to start treatment. Unfortunately, economics influence health disparities amongst the vulnerable population which result in the need for public health nursing, insurance, and healthcare reform (Brownie, 2017).
