This learner’s definition of collaboration is, “Collaboration occurs when a group of people come together to develop and contribute a project or program where shared thoughts and ideas are shaped into a plan that achieves a stated mission, vision, or shared objectives when a group of people come together and contribute their expertise for the benefit of a shared objective, project, or mission. In the article, Everyone Swims, the authors stated that in their research they found that by engaging multiple sectors working together to improve policies and systems, we were able to achieve sustainable, meaningful changes (Stempski, et al 2015). This statement leads to an outcome of collaboration. The author also stated that the Socio-Ecological Model in collaboration is a public health framework for multisystem change. This leaner does not believe collaboration is a fad. In fact, for nearly 30 years, this learner has been a part of a community collaborative that work to improve the lives of youth by engaging in programming conducive to positively impacting their lives in a progressive manner. In the article, Seven Reason’s Why Collaboration is important the author states, “As people’s skillsets get increasingly specialized, collaboration as a practice becomes more important than ever.” Human service organizations provide a multitude of service that impacts the lives of people. Human services professionals must have a skill set that is conducive to working with others, thus creating the need for collaboration.

This learner believes that collaboration will be around well into the future as collaboration often allow groups of people to describes how strategies to change policy and systems, and help to improve conditions and outcomes that lead to healthy communities and lives which contribute to reducing disparities in communities such as Ruby Lakes.

As for changes in human services concept as it relates to collaboration in the future, Green and Johnson (2015), states, “Collaboration occurs when two or more professional work together to achieve common goals and is often used as a means for solving a variety of problems and complex issues.” Furthermore, this learner believes that the human service profession benefits from collaboration now and will benefit in the future because the benefits of collaboration allow professionals to achieve together more than they can individually, serve larger groups of people, and grow on individual and organizational levels (Green, Johnson, 2015)
