Idaho State University Civil Rights Movement Paper
Need help with my History question – Im studying for my class.
Question: Why were economic forms of protest so important to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1940s-1960s?
Your Response Papers will demonstrate your comprehension of the assigned readings and lectures and should accomplish the following:
Create a thesis statement that answers the prompt question. Make this statement clear and concise and easy to find.
Support your argument with well-chosen evidence from the course materials. Each Response Paper should use quotes or paraphrases from at least three primary source documents assigned that week.
The only materials I expect you to draw upon for these essays are the required readings and lectures. Please do not bring in additional readings.
Although this is a short essay, your response should be organized and structured, with an introduction, conclusion, and body paragraphs that each have a distinct sub-topic. additional readings.
Response papers should employ a formal tone (no slang, contractions, I or we) and use a standard citation format (APA, Chicago, MLA) for citing sources.
Responses should be 4 to 5 pages long (1000-1250 words), in double-spaced 12 font.
Keep in mind: these response papers serve as practice for the final paper or project. The more thought you put into them now, the better prepared you will be for the end of the semester.
Response Paper Grading Rubric
Each essay is worth a total of 15 points. I will be looking for the following when I grade your work:
3 points – Argument: does your thesis statement answer the question? Is it clear and easy to find? Is your thesis provable using the materials from this class?
3 points – Evidence: do your chosen quotes and/or examples support your thesis statement? Are they properly attributed? Do you use the required number of sources and are they from the assigned readings?
3 points – Organization: does your essay have a clear organization? Is that organization directly related to your thesis statement/argument? Do your body paragraphs each do something different? Do the topic sentences of your paragraphs reflect the paragraph content?
3 points – Components: does your essay have an introduction, logical body paragraphs, and a conclusion? Is it an appropriate length?
3 points – Format: is your essay proof-read and free of typos and informal language? Are your citations properly formatted? Is the content of your essay factually accurate?

Redo/Rewrite Policy
If you submitted a Response Paper and earned a grade of 50% or lower, you may either rewrite it or write a fifth paper later in the semester. In either case, I will average the two grades and substitute it for the failed Response Paper.
In other words, say you received a 40% on Response Paper 3. If you rewrote it and received a 90% on the rewrite, your Response Paper 3 grade would become a 65%. If you wrote a fifth paper later on in the term (say, Response Paper 10) and received a 100%, your substituted Response Paper 3 grade would be 70%.
Any rewrites or substitutions must be submitted via email by Friday, November 20 at 11:59pm, with a note that lets me know which paper you want substituted.
