Topic: Proposal for a Material Handling Supervisor

Study:

Zumbi Hospital is a small hospital that does not have any department for material handling. As a result, clean linens that are supplied to the hospital are wheeled from the ground floor to various nurses’ stations. The nurses struggle with bringing their clean carts up, especially most of them who are women find it so difficult to get around too many carts in a small room just to get the carts they want. In addition to their frustration, they must cater to patients and at the same time keep track of the linen supply and transportation to the floors. There is no one to check exactly what each floor needs. As a result some gowns and blankets that are not need on certain floors is causing a waste in the system

The hospital is struggling with their FTEs and does not know what to do in order to establish a new department. In some hospital, the EVS Department handles linen distribution. In others, the distribution of supplies and linens are tracked by a separate Material Handling Department.

Because of the FTE level and the size of the hospital, I want to propose that the present EVS Department in the hospital adds an additional supervisor who will be responsible both for linen distribution and supplies of the EVS Department. Presently we have one supervisor and one manager. The manager handles EVS, Transport and Guest Services Departments. When we add one more supervisor, he is not only going to handle supplies but also helps in reducing some of the burdens on the present supervisor and manage, and will help eleviate the linen distribution problem.

Instructions:

A two-page word document with five credible sources that will be a proposal to the Manager of the EVS Department. This proposal should have a SWOT analysis.

Introduction must focus on the problem

Focus on the burden of nurses paying attention to patients and being overloaded with tracking linen supply

Discuss the importance of an additional supervisor and why is it important to do so

Discuss the importance of supplies, etc…
