Brief: This week your class reflections should be posted as replies to students’ contemporary photography posts in the Discussion assignment for Wk 12. Go to the Wk 12 Discussion and read through everyone’s post on contemporary photography. Pick the two which interest you most. Research the photographer a bit on your own and then describe what interests you about the photographer’s practice and why it interests you. If it connects to your own work, tell us why.Your reply posts should be at least a full paragraph in length.

There is the example: Hi, I really enjoyed reading through your presentation on Araki Nobuyoshi. What intrigued me the most about Nobuyoshi was the way he was able to change completely, he went from this hyper-sexual/cinematic/comedic style of photography to something very intimate and sensitive which are the photos of his wife Yoko. I found it very interesting how most of his photos were of intimate situations, generally nude subjects in a sexual context, but he was able to showcase a more intimate portrait through simple everyday photos of his wife. I quickly skimmed through his book titled Erotos and was completely blown away by how Nobuyoshi made sex so disgusting, his work in this series displays delicate abstractions of the male and female form dialoguing between similar objects such as fruits and snails. The black and white photos taken with a flash creating high contrast and very tight compositions lead to this misleading nature of the photos but I also feel like he’s forcibly including us in those bizarre sexual acts. Safe to say Nobuyoshi is a very diverse photographer and that’s definitely the reason why he interests me. I love being shocked, having to see images multiple times to understand what’s going on, and seeing something I’ve never seen before.
