Question Description

For the data sheet: Please note that the data set contain invoice dates from 1915 – 2215. It is done intentionally as data is not real. You will also notice that the number of duplicates is high. This is also a part of this data and is not a mistake.

Please submit the answers in word and excel files. The excel file should contain results of data analytics work. The word document should list answers with references to excel or point to a specific tab/cell in excel file.

Questions:

  1. Using “Numeric Analysis,” determine if the data on Dollar Amount conforms to Benford’s Law. Run for the first digit and then again for the first two digits. Interpret the results for both cases.
  2. Using “Extract,” run the “duplicate” for the three data elements Dollar Amount, Invoice Number, and Vendor ID. Use the Excel sort feature on the output to determine if there are any likely duplicate payments. What additional criteria and parameters would you need for a deeper dive to narrow down your search results.
  3. Using ”Extract” run the “Exception Report” to determine the following:
  4. a) how many transactions there were for more than $500,000
  5. b) how many transactions occurred on December 24th through and including January 1st.
  6. c) for a) AND b.
  7. Using “Summarize” “Quick Summary,” determine:
  8. a) the top 10 vendors in terms of dollar amounts. (Hint: click on a value filter and sort top 10 output), and
  9. b) What are the top 10 vendors in terms of number of number of transactions?

You will need to apply your judgment in selecting the most significant outliers (rather than having it done through the add-on).
For other tasks you may need to use data sorting, pivot tables and other functions.
