University of California Gender Differences & Rates of Psychopathology Discussion

We have talked and read a lot about gender differences in rates of psychopathology. Given what we know about the potential role of gender socialization in the differences in rates of psychopathology, what do you think about the strategy of medicating girls/women with SSRIs for anxiety/depression? In other words, if gender role socialization may play even a small role in the higher rates of depression/anxiety for girls/women, does medication make sense as a treatment approach?
